How We Responded To A Challenging Situation

Here’s a message we recently received from our CHC partners

“I would like to bring to your attention how utterly fantastic Lotus Home Care was last night in a very challenging situation and to express my gratitude for the help and support that your team provided during an emergency that was unfolding.

To give it a little more context, we had a lady requiring an emergency respite placement in a care home, and admission was booked for today, however throughout the afternoon and early evening it became apparent that the lady involved had had numerous falls and her condition was deteriorating rapidly. At approximately 17:15 last night I was informed that the family was unable to provide any support and that the night sitting service had no capacity to provide any overnight care. This placed the lady at a high risk of harm and we needed to put urgent care in place

Many other care companies I had asked for help from were unable to accommodate any request for care at this late hour. I contacted your care coordinator Nicola at about 18:00 hrs and Nicola went over and above to try and help out in this situation. Nicola managed to get a carer to pick up the night shift and very short notice and understood and responded to the gravity of the request for care. At all times Nicola communicated to me what was happening but at no point promised something that she couldn’t deliver.

Nicola informed me that one of your carers Maleeh could possibly pick up the night shift however did not have transport and would need to organise child care. Nicola agreed to provide transport for Maleeh and to complete the risk assessments in the patient’s home.

Unfortunately, the lady had another fall and it was decided at this point to admit her to hospital. At this time both Nicola and Maleeh had just arrived at the home to commence the night sit.

Both Nicola and Maleeh showed empathy, compassion and professionalism; and placed the patient at the very heart of their decision making. This experience with your dedicated care team reflects so well on your company and I just wanted to express my gratitude and to draw to your attention how impressed I was from start to finish with how this situation was handled and the support that was offered to the CHC Team and the individual concerned.”
