Caring for others is at the heart of what it means to be a care worker — but what does a typical day in their role really look like? To gain a deeper understanding, we asked one of our dedicated care workers in Hull to complete a short questionnaire about their experiences, responsibilities, and what inspires them in their work. Their honest reflections offer a glimpse into the challenges and rewards of providing compassionate care every day.
What made you choose the care industry as a career path?
I chose to work in the care industry because I enjoy helping others and seeing the difference I can make in their daily lives. Even small acts of support can help people maintain their independence, comfort, and happiness, which I find rewarding. For me, it’s more than just a job; it’s an opportunity to connect with people, learn from them, and support them when they need it the most.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me consists of helping people with personal care, meals, and daily activities, as well as chatting and engaging with them. My goal is to always make them feel safe, comfortable, and valued.
What is rewarding in your role?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing the difference I can make in people’s lives, whether it’s helping them stay independent or simply brightening their day.

Lotus stands out because it truly places people at the center of everything it does. There is a strong emphasis on personalised care, supporting both staff and those we care for, and creating a positive, respectful environment. I also value the sense of community and teamwork here, which makes it a supportive and rewarding place to work.
